Let the church hear your voice
Two major online surveys, one local and one global, now being conducted by the church offer Catholics of the Diocese of Peoria an opportunity to share their thoughts with Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, and even Pope Francis.
Bishop Jenky, as you may have seen on these pages or heard in your parish, is seeking feedback regarding the needs of the Diocese of Peoria and how those needs might be addressed through a major capital campaign. But the window of opportunity to make your voice heard is closing — the deadline for the online survey is this Wednesday, July 19.
“Your response will allow us to make good, prudent decisions for the future of our diocese,” said Bishop Jenky in inviting Catholics to study the goals of the proposed $71 million campaign and complete the survey at cdop.org/capitalcampaign. The diocese has engaged The Steier Group, a Catholic development and fundraising firm from Omaha, to conduct the study online, via mail, or in person throughout the diocese.
Meanwhile, as is explained in the column below on this page, Pope Francis is asking all young people between the ages of 16 and 29 — regardless of faith or religious belief — to share about their lives, challenges, and expectations through an online survey found at bit.ly/2rZPSMZ. The responses, which are submitted anonymously, will help set the agenda for the 2018 Synod of Bishops and its study of “Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment.”
Have you ever complained that no one is listening to you? That’s not true this summer. Take advantage of these opportunities to have your voice heard by church leaders near and far. — Thomas J. Dermody
