‘Art of Faith’ sacred art show, sale is this weekend hosted by St. Pius X, Rock Island
ROCK ISLAND — The focus will be on art in all its forms this weekend at the Ninth Annual Art of Faith, a juried sacred art show and sale. The theme is “Rest in the Sacred Heart of Jesus.”
The show, which features the work of 19 local artists, is being held Saturday, Feb. 15, from 2 to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Farrell Hall of St. Pius X Church, 2901 24th St. In addition, work will be displayed from students who participated in a high school art contest.
This year there will be opportunities to attend concerts given by Catholic recording artists Annie Karto and Matthew Baute. The first is planned for Saturday at 2 p.m. and the second will be on Sunday at noon, with both taking place in Farrell Hall.
They will also lead Holy Hours in the church on Saturday from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The first one will offer a reflection on the art show’s theme, while the second one will allow participants to immerse themselves in Divine Mercy.
The healing mercy of God is at the heart of Karto’s music ministry, along with the sacraments and honoring the Blessed Mother. She has traveled extensively, spreading the message of Divine Mercy, and has recorded six CDs, with the latest being “A Gift for Our Lady.”
Baute’s CDs include “Love Wins All,” “Hold Me, Lord,” “River of Grace” and “Harmony and Balance.” While he has provided music for retreats, conferences and healing concerts around the United States, he is currently based at a small, rural parish in Wisconsin, where he directs the choir and plays the organ.
Local musicians will perform throughout the event, and there will be food and families activities. There is no charge to attend the art show or either concert.
“We want to build community among our parish to strengthen families and help provide an environment that encourages sacred art, prayers and sacramentals in the home, which is the domestic church,” said Jill Rodts, founder and organizer of Art of Faith.
“We work together to build up the Body of Christ, showing the love of Christ to the world by the support of local Catholic artists and musicians, as well as the cloistered religious Sisters of the Community of St. John and professional Catholic singers and songwriters,” she said.
