St. Philomena teacher writes the books she wants for her students

They say if you want something done right, do it for yourself. A faith teacher for sixth through eighth graders at St Philomena Catholic School in Peoria, Katie Bogner has taken this advice to heart.
I love our Faith, and wanted to make sharing the truths of Catholicism with kids engaging and easy.” – Katie Bogner, author, “All about Lent and Holy Week”
Bogner has now written five books: “Through the Year with Jesus;” “Through the Year with Mary;” “We Have a Pope;” “All About Advent and Christmas;” and now – “All About Lent & Holy Week.”
The publisher of “All About Lent” is Emmaus Road Publishing, which is owned by the non-profit St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, founded by Scott Hahn, which recently opened its new headquarters across the street from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio.
On the St. Paul Center website, the book is described as “the essential guide all Catholic families need for the holiest time of the year.”
BECOMING AUTHOR UNEXPECTED
Bogner commented that her journey to becoming a published author wasn’t something that she planned. “While working as a teacher and a DRE (director of religious education), I started adding resources to a website (Look to Him and be Radiant) to make them accessible for parents, catechists, and teachers.”
She added, “I love our Faith, and wanted to make sharing the truths of Catholicism with kids engaging and easy.”
But she found that sometimes, the book she was trying to find for her students simply didn’t exist. That is the process that helps her discern what she should write about.
BOOKS ACCESSIBLE/ATTRACTIVE TO KIDS
“I am working to create the resources that I want to use in my own classroom.
One of Bogner’s main goals is to present the truths of the faith in a way that is “accessible and attractive to kids.”

Author Katie Bogner collaborated once again with illustrator Shari Van Vranken to bring “All About Lent and Holy Week” to life.
To that end, she worked once again with illustrator and frequent collaborator Shari Van Vranken to bring “All About Lent and Holy Week” to life.
“It is my hope that these books are useful tools for parents and teachers, helping them answer all of their kids’ wonderful questions as they grow and learn as young Catholics!” said Bogner.
