OTTAWA — “Unwrapping the Gift of the Eucharist” is the theme for a parish mission that will be preached by Vincentian Father Bob Gielow from Monday, Nov. 30, to Thursday, Dec. 3, at St. Patrick Church, 726 W. Jefferson. Each session will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The mission begins with a talk about the Holy Eucharist and continues with discussions on the Holy Spirit and discipleship. Father Gielow will conclude the mission by exploring the meanings and symbols of Advent.
A short social in the parish center will follow the mission.
This is a homecoming of sorts for Father Gielow, who was born in nearby LaSalle. He attended St. Vincent DePaul High School Seminary in Lemont and entered the novitiate of the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers after he graduated in 1961. He was ordained in May 1971.
He has served on the faculty of Regina Cleri Seminary in Tucson, Arizona, and DePaul University in Chicago. During his eight years at DePaul, he was director of campus ministry and director of athletics.
His ministry also included four years as director of vocations for the Midwest Province of the Vincentians.
Father Gielow joined the Vincentian Parish Mission team in 1987.
