Valkyrie
Rating: A-II (PG-13)
NEW YORK (CNS) — The following are capsule reviews of movies recently reviewed by the Office for Film & Broadcasting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Generally well-made and engrossing World War II thriller about the true-life final plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler and take over the government by a group of disenchanted army officers (Tom Cruise, Bill Nighy, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Izzard, Tom Wilkinson and Terence Stamp). Director Bryan Singer maintains a taut, suspenseful pace, performances are fine (including Cruise, though he seems a bit miscast in the European milieu), and objectionable elements are minimal. Some wartime violence, suicide, executions and a single use of the F-word.
The USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification is A-II — adults and adolescents. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 — parents strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
