Local author Katie Bogner guides children through Advent and Christmas
Parents, catechists, and teachers have a new resource to help guide children through Advent and Christmas, thanks to a local author.
“All about Advent and Christmas: Sharing the Seasons of Hope and Wonder with Children” is the title of a just-released book by Katherine (Katie) Bogner, junior high faith formation teacher at St. Philomena School in Peoria and a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Lacon, where she is director of religious education and youth group coordinator.
Published by Emmaus Road, the 56-page hardcover book explores the traditions surrounding Christ’s birth, highlights customs from throughout church history, and explains aspects of Catholic liturgy and teaching. Helping to make the liturgical seasons come alive are colorful illustrations by Shari Van Vranken, a veteran graphic designer from rural East Texas.
Bogner called her new effort “the book I always wished existed but could never find.”
“It shows God’s plan for His people as they waited for the promised Messiah and contains resources for Advent traditions, prayers, songs and saints,” she told The Catholic Post.
All purchases of “All about Advent and Christmas” include a digital bonus pack with a clickable Advent calendar for 2023, coloring pages, and Advent activities. The book is available at online outlets including stpaulcenter.com as well as local Catholic bookstores. Cost is $17.95, while an eBook version is available for $10.95.
This is Bogner’s third book. In recent years she also authored “Through the Year with Jesus” and “Through the Year with Mary.” Her popular blog can be found at LookToHimAndBeRadiant.com, a site that also includes free lesson plans, printable, and other resources for teaching the faith.
