Nympha White of Grand Ridge receives national Catholic women’s award
OTTAWA — The top honor the National Council of Catholic Women bestows is the Our Lady of Good Counsel Award and this year’s recipient is Nympha White of Grand Ridge. The award was presented during the 2018 NCCW convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
White was nominated for the award by Joan Weber of Peoria, a past president of the Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and former director of the NCCW’s Chicago Province, which covers the state of Illinois. It recognizes significant contributions made by a council woman in the areas of service to the church, the Council of Catholic Women, her parish, and the community at large.
White has served on the board of directors of the Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for the past 16 years and held various offices, including president for two terms, and treasurer for three terms. She currently serves on the DCCW’s Service Commission as chair of International Ministry and Prison Ministry.
In addition to her work on the diocesan level, she sings with the choir at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria and assists at her parish, St. Columba in Ottawa, with confirmation and major events.
“It’s just beautifully evident how much Nympha loves the church and feels called to serve,” said Kim Padan, present of the Peoria DCCW. “I think that all of us are really happy to know her and we’re proud of her accomplishments and grateful that she’s following God’s calling, because she’s doing great things.”
