‘Joy of the Lord’ is theme for charismatic renewal conference offered July 29

“The Joy of the Lord Is My Strength” will be the focus for prayer and praise when people converge on the Spalding Pastoral Center in Peoria on Saturday, July 29, for the annual conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Diocese of Peoria. Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, will give the welcoming address at 9 a.m.

The speakers will be Father Dave Pivonka, TOR, director of Franciscan Pathways, and Sister Linda Koontz, SNJM, who ministers to the poor in Juarez, Mexico, through The Spirit of the Lord International Mission. Dan Duet will return to lead musical praise and worship.

The conference will also include time for the sacrament of reconciliation, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Chaplet of Divine Mercy, as well as a healing service. Father Dave will celebrate the closing Charismatic Mass at 7 p.m.

Father Dave is a nationally known evangelist and author who has spoken at conferences, retreats and parish missions around the world. His books include “Spiritual Freedom — God’s Life Changing Gift,” “Hiking the Camino — 500 Miles with Jesus,” “Encounter Jesus — From Discovery to Discipleship” and “Breath of God — Living a Life Led by the Holy Spirit.”

He is also responsible for “The Wild Goose,” a 14-part video series that explores what it is to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Father Dave is a member of the Sacred Heart Province of Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular. Franciscan Pathways is the community’s evangelistic outreach.

Based in El Paso, Texas, Sister Linda has been serving full time in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal since 1971. She is a member of the Holy Name of Jesus and Mary and taught religion in Washington state before entering her current ministry to the “poorest of the poor.”

Registration postmarked by June 30 is $50 and will increase by $5 after that date. The cost is $20 for full-time students and free for clergy, religious, deacons and seminarians. The optional meal plan is $23 for everyone and must be postmarked by July 12.

PRAYER TEAMS,  OTHERS TO PREPARE VIA WORKSHOP 

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Diocese of Peoria is offering a prayer workshop on Saturday, June 23, in preparation for this year’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal Conference. Deacon Bob Pomazal will present the workshop, which will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Spalding Pastoral Center in Peoria.

It is open to anyone who would like to deepen and expand their prayer life, and is required for those who wish to serve on a prayer team at the conference. It will also be held at the Spalding Pastoral Center, 419 N.E. Madison Ave.
