Princeville – It’s been a tradition in the month of remembrance for Knights of Columbus Council 11361 for approximately 30 years.

The Mass for the Deceased Knights of Columbus was celebrated at St. Mary of the Woods (Princeville) on Nov. 19, with Father Corey Krengiel as celebrant.

The Mass began with an introduction from Grand Knight Mark Nitzsche.

We ask Holy Mary, our Mother and Blessed McGivney, our brother and founder to pray for the souls of these brother Knights.” – Father Corey Krengiel

“Brother Knights demonstrate their fraternity when they pray for a soul of a departed Knight and console the members of his family . . . . the Knights have continued the tradition of a memorial Mass each November for all departed brothers and their families.”

Father Krengiel, himself a Knight, reminded attendees during his homily that, “Jesus raised Lazarus from the tomb to teach us that death is not the end for those who believe.”

KNIGHTS DEVOTED TO MARY

After his homily, as part of the prayer of petitions, Father Krengiel said, “On behalf of the Princeville and Wyoming Knights of Columbus, we ask Holy Mary, our Mother and Blessed McGivney, our brother and founder to pray for the souls of these brother Knights.

During the petitions, current Knights lined up at the back of the church as Grand Knight Nitzsche and Deputy Grand Knight Marty Urbanc took turns reading the list of names of their deceased members over the last three decades (including their recently-deceased brothers Frank Waldinger and James Henehan).

Cohorts of three Knights would walk to the front of the church and stand while each list was being read, then return to their seats to make way for next group.

The names read were for Knights from St. Mary of the Woods (Princeville) and St. Dominic (Wyoming).
