A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024 at St. Ann Church, 1010 S. Louisa Street, Peoria, for Deacon Bruce Steiner, who served at St. Ann’s and in the ministry of the sick.

Deacon Steiner, formerly of Bartonville, passed away on All Saints Day, Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, in Weeki Wachee, FL. He was 79.

Mass will be offered by Deacon Steiner’s son, Father Daniel Steiner of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Hendersonville, TN.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the public visitation with cremains at St. Ann Church at 1 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 1:30.

After the funeral Mass, burial and committal will follow  at St. Mary’s Cemetery, located at 421 N. Sterling Avenue, West Peoria. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited graveside, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Deacon Steiner was a lifelong patternmaker who retired from Caterpillar. Some of his hobbies and interests included woodworking and fishing. After retiring, he was ordained to the permanent diaconate for the Catholic Diocese of Peoria in May, 2007.

SPECIAL MINISTRY TO THE SICK

As well as serving at St. Ann Parish, Deacon Steiner’s true joy was ministering to the sick, especially those in hospital, nursing homes and homebound.

He was also involved in the Cursillo community through the years, and took part in several mission trips to Cyvadier, Haiti, with FOTCOH (Friends of the Children of Haiti). Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and children doing nightly dinners, games and dancing to music.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol; their children, Michael and (Angee) Steiner; Devanice (Douglas) Gaa; Dena (Michael) Hrdlicka; Marie (Chris) McEnerney; Father Daniel Steiner; and Heather (Jon) Calzavara; grandchildren, Joshua, Samantha, MacKenzee, Elijah, Brecken, Serena, Grace, Andrew, Nicole, Cain, Rylee, Gabrielle and Jonnie; and great-grandchildren, Rhett, Reed, Kenway, Oaklyn, Rayden and Luca.
