Congratulations Bishop Jenky on your 50th Anniversary of ordination to the priesthood
Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C. was ordained to the priesthood on April 6, 1974, at Sacred Heart Church on the Notre Dame campus.
His assignments have included:
Sacred Heart Parish/Residential Staff of Flanner Hall, University of Notre Dame, 1973 (diaconate year);
Bourgade Catholic High School, Phoenix, Arizona, 1974, where he taught social studies and religion;
Rector of Dillon Hall and associate director of campus ministry, University of Notre Dame, with responsibility for the pastoral and liturgical organization of Sacred Heart Church, 1975;
Rector of Sacred Heart Church at Notre Dame, 1977-97;
Director of Campus Ministry, University of Notre Dame, 1984;
Religious Superior of the Holy Cross Priests and Brothers at Notre Dame, 1985-91 (with residence at Corby Hall); and
Rector of Fischer O’Hara Grace residential complex for Notre Dame graduate students, 1991-97.
First ordained to the episcopacy in 1997:
Bishop Jenky was ordained auxiliary bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend and titular Bishop of Amantia on Dec. 16, 1997, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew in South Bend. He was rector of St. Matthew Co-Cathedral in South Bend and pastor of its parish from 1997 to 2002.
Bishop Jenky was appointed as the eighth Bishop of Peoria on February 12, 2002.
He retired on March 3, 2022, and is now Bishop Emeritus.
