St. Philomena, Peoria, to host open house with 18 area Catholic authors July 28
Eighteen Catholic authors based in the Diocese of Peoria will be present to discuss and sign their books at a “Catholic Author Meet and Greet” to take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 28, at the St. Philomena Parish Center in Peoria.
“We’re thrilled with the group of authors that is joining us and hope to have a great turnout from the community,” said Katie Bogner, who in addition to being a junior high faith formation teacher at St. Philomena School and an event organizer is also among the featured authors. In recent years she penned “Through the Year with Jesus” and “Through the Year with Mary.”
“Good books are a treasure,” continued Bogner. “We wanted to help our school and parish families discover new books by making connections with local Catholic authors and illustrators.”
But the open house-style event, which will also feature illustrators, is open to all. There is no admission charge. Books will be available for sale, and throughout the morning authors will interact with attendees — signing books, answering questions, and offering readings.
Children’s activities are planned, as well as a used book swap.
In addition to Bogner, authors and illustrators expected to take part include Pam Bates and Paula Patty, Mari Briggs, Father Gary Caster, Mary Delgado, Bonnie Engstrom, Susan Furlong, Joyce Heiple, Jeff and Ava Hoskins, Clairann Nicklin, Clara O’Neal, Laurie Schmitt, Pete Smudde, Lindsey Spangler, Elizabeth Unes, and Georgette Williams.
More information, including a list of books produced by the participating authors and illustrators, is available at stphils.com/church/events.
