Charismatic Renewal Conference returns to in-person format July 30; speakers set
After two years of virtual gatherings designed as a safeguard against COVID-19, the Diocese of Peoria’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal Conference will return to an in-person format on Saturday, July 30, at the Spalding Pastoral Center in Peoria. The theme is “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.”
The 36th annual conference will feature talks by Bishop Louis Tylka, Dr. Carol L. Razza, and Father John Verrier. The music and worship leader will be “Cajun Dan” Dúet, founder of Two-Twelve Ministries in San Antonio, Texas, who has participated in every conference since 2015.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. In addition to the talks and periods of praise and worship, there will be a Holy Hour with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 2:30 p.m., followed by a healing service.
The sacrament of reconciliation will be available during the lunch break, and the closing Mass is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Razza is a professor of pastoral counseling and formation adviser at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida Atlantic University, and a master’s degree in counseling psychology and doctorate in child and youth studies, both from Nova Southeastern University.
She serves on the advisory board, as regional representative for Europe and Asia, for the International Magnificat, and is the author of “Sonblock: How Christians Unknowingly Shield Themselves from Grace” and “Parent Me . . . Please!” She has worked in private practice as a psychotherapist for more than 25 years.
Father Verrier was ordained May 27, 1995, by Bishop John J. Myers at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria. He has been the pastor of St. Joseph in Brimfield and St. James in Williamsfield since 2008, and serves as spiritual director of the Eucharistic Disciples of Divine Mercy, Peoria Cenacle.
Registration is $60 per person and $25 for full-time students. There is no charge for clergy, religious, deacons and seminarians, with the exception of meals. The meal plan, which must be postmarked by July 9, is $30 for everyone.
