Government Grinches
As we were preparing to celebrate the birth of our Savior, our state and federal governments put the lives of today’s unborn children and their mothers at greater risk by succumbing to abortion industry pressures.
On Dec. 16, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced it was lifting the requirement that a prescription for the abortion drug mifepristone must be picked up in person. The next day, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed the law — passed by the General Assembly in October — repealing the state’s Parental Notice of Abortion Act.
Of the latter, Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield minced no words, calling it “a dark and disgraceful moment in the history of the state of Illinois,” and adding that the government has “provided evil the cover of darkness in which it thrives.”
As the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decisions legalizing abortion approaches later this month, and with the Christ Child in the manger in our hearts, let’s resolve to even more fervently pray and act for the protection of human life in all its stages during 2022. — Thomas J. Dermody
