Memorial candles to be blessed Nov. 2 at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island

ROCK ISLAND — To commemorate All Souls’ Day and remember those who have died, candles will be blessed and taken to gravesites at Calvary Cemetery, 2901 12th St., on Monday, Nov. 2. The ceremony is planned for 9 a.m.

Family and friends are welcome to attend. The cemetery staff requests that everyone observe social distancing guidelines and wear masks.

The candles will be in colored glass containers that are marked with the names of the deceased. They will be placed along the walks for those at the mausoleum, and in the Garden of St. Francis for those buried elsewhere.

The candles are designed to remain lit for approximately 72 hours, weather permitting.

This is the only time candles are allowed in the cemetery.

To participate in the Remembrance Candle program, send a check for $8 to Calvary Cemetery Association, 2901 12th St., Rock Island, IL 61201. Make checks payable to “Calvary Cemetery.”
