3 to senior status in priest assignments announced by Bishop Jenky; full list here

Fourteen priests of the Diocese of Peoria have received new assignments in clergy appointments announced this month by Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC.

Three priests were granted senior status. They include:

  • Msgr. Steven P. Rohlfs, P.A., 70, a former vicar general and administrator of the Diocese of Peoria and rector emeritus of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland;
  • Father David C. Heinz, 70, pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Bartonville since 2002, and
  • Father Michael Pakula, 76, pastor of St. Malachy Parish in Geneseo since 1995.

Following is the full list of appointments. The list is followed by brief biographies of newly assigned pastors.

This appointment was effective on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

These appointments are effective at noon on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

BACKGROUND OF NEW PASTORS

Succeeding Father Heinz as pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Bartonville will be Father Charles Klamut. Ordained in 1999, Father Klamut has served as pastor of St. Ambrose Parish in Milan since 2014, adding responsibilities as pastor of St. Patrick, Andalusia, in 2016. He is a former chaplain of two Catholic high schools in the diocese — Alleman in Rock Island and Peoria Notre Dame — and has also served as pastor of St. Mark Parish, Peoria, and as assistant chaplain of St. John’s Catholic Newman Center in Champaign.

Father Joseph Baker has been named administrator of the faith communities in Milan and Andalusia. He presently serves as parochial vicar at Epiphany Parish in Normal and chaplain of Central Catholic High School in Bloomington.

The new pastor of St. Malachy Parish in Geneseo will be Father James Pallardy, who has served as pastor of St. Anne Parish in East Moline for the past year. Ordained in 1987, Father Pallardy is a former pastor of St. Patrick, Andalusia; St. Bernard and St. Vincent de Paul parishes in Peoria; St. Mary and St. Francis of Assisi parishes in Kewanee; and St. John Vianney Parish, Cambridge. He is also a former chaplain of Alleman High School in Rock Island.

Father Glenn Harris, pastor of parishes in Rapids City and Hampton, will add duties as pastor of St. Anne Parish in East Moline.

The new chaplain of Central Catholic High School in Bloomington will be Father Geoffrey Horton, who will continue as chaplain of St. John Paul II Newman Center in Normal. In addition, he will serve as administrator of St. Patrick Parish, Wapella.
