Sister Irene Krogmeier, OSB, 97, dies; funeral will be Dec. 13 in Rock Island

Sister Irene Krogmeier, OSB, died Dec. 10.

ROCK ISLAND — A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Sister Irene Krogmeier, OSB, on Friday, Dec. 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of St. Mary Monastery, 2200 88th Ave. West. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Visitation was planned for Thursday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., also in the monastery chapel. A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

Sister Irene died on Dec. 10, 2019, at St. Mary Monastery. She was 97.

The daughter of John and Mary Ann (Brinkschroeder) Krogmeier, Sister Irene was born on Dec. 5, 1922, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo and entered the Benedictine community there on Sept. 8, 1944. She professed her first vows on July 11, 1946, and her final profession came on July 11, 1949.

Sister Irene, whose religious name was Loretta Theresa, ministered in food service, infirmary, housekeeping and maintenance at St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo, Benet House Retreat Center in Rock Island, Holy Family in Peoria, St. Mary in Moline, and St. Joseph in Ivesdale.

Preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Krogmeier, Sister Irene is survived by a niece, Debbie (Bruce) Corlew, and a nephew, John (Kathy) Krogmeier, and her Benedictine Sisters.
