Archdiocese of New York makes new appeal in Archbishop Sheen case
EDITOR’S NOTE — The following news release was issued by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria on May 20:
The Archdiocese of New York has filed a second motion in the Court of Appeals, New York’s top court, asking permission to again appeal a lower court judgment that authorizes Archbishop Sheen’s family to move his remains from New York to Peoria. On May 2, 2019, the Court of Appeals rejected the Archdiocese’s first motion to appeal. This newly filed motion is the New York Archdiocese’s sixth attempt over the past three years to thwart the wishes of Archbishop Sheen’s family. It is with great regret that this time consuming and costly litigation continues, which also delays the celebration of Venerable Archbishop Sheen’s beatification.
