Randy Simmons Memorial 5K Run/Walk on May 25 inspired by late PND principal

PEORIA HEIGHTS — It wasn’t unusual to see Randy Simmons running around town and his friends and Peoria Notre Dame family will honor him by doing the same thing.

The inaugural Randy Simmons Memorial 5K Run/Walk is planned for Saturday, May 25, at 6 p.m. It will start and finish at Tower Park, near the intersection of Grandview Drive and Prospect Road.

The cost to register is $30 before May 19, and then $35 until the day of the race. Those who register onsite will pay $40.

All proceeds will benefit the Randy Simmons Tuition Assistance Fund at Peoria Notre Dame, where he had served as an administrator since 2013. He died unexpectedly on Feb. 19.

Organizers said one of his dreams was for all students to have an opportunity for a Catholic education and the race will help to make that possible.

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers overall, as well as by age group: 12 and younger, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and older.

Live music, food and drinks will follow at Pour Brothers on Prospect Road.
