Meet a Reader: Sr. Diane VandeVoorde, OSF
How we know you: I am a Heading Avenue Franciscan and I live in West Peoria. Since I am a member of a diocesan community I’ve been in these parts doing ministry for many years. I currently serve as the liturgist and organist for my community as well as teach in the deacon/safe formation program.
Why I love reading: One of my first experiences with a book was “Mother Goose,” a fairy tale story book which our mother kept close at hand. I knew all the stories and many poems. Reading gives me relaxation, knowledge, a broader outlook, and escape. Reading offers a whole new world.
What I’m reading now: I am reading “A Jesuit Off Broadway” by James Martin, S.J.; “Jesus of Nazareth” by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI); and “Becoming” by Michelle Obama.
My favorite book: There are two, “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor E. Frankl, and Leo Tolstoy’s “What Men Live By.”
