Artists, musicians named for March 2-3 sacred art show, sale in Rock Island

ROCK ISLAND — Artists and musicians for the Art of Faith, a juried sacred art show and sale being held this weekend, have been announced by Jill Rodts, founder and organizer.

This year’s theme is “The Merciful Love of Jesus — Art of the Sacred Heart.” People may come and meet the artists, be serenaded by area musicians, and have a bite to eat from 2 to 7 p.m. on March 2, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 3.

On Saturday, visitors to Farrell Hall at St. Pius X Church, 2901 24th St., will hear from Sharon Ade, piano, from 2 to 3 p.m.; Mark Kline, singer, songwriter and guitarist, from 3 to 4 p.m.; and Chris Dunn on vocals and guitar, from 4 to 5 p.m. The final performance of the day will be given by Lydia Olson, Ashley Gochee and Clare Nonnennmann, harpists, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Musical performances on Sunday include the string quartet of Steve Van Hyfte, Judy Booe, Gwen Patton and David Bracke from 10 to 11 a.m.; Patton and Karen McClintock on cello and flute from 11 to 11:30 a.m.; and McClintock on flute at 11:30 a.m.

Paul Herrera of the Art Legacy League will offer a free calligraphy workshop from noon to 1 p.m. Also on Sunday, the high school art contest winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m.

Among the 20 artists from Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa and Illinois, who will display their work are: Sharon Ade, Moline, holy cards; Jan Butler, Coal Valley, prayer cards; Don Barry, Bettendorf, Iowa, wood saw scrolling; Lynn Barry, Bettendorf, Iowa, quilting; Dennis Carlson, Bettendorf, Iowa, wood carving; Judith Costello, Davenport, Iowa, mixed media, painting, drawing; Brenda DeLathouwer, Rock Island, art and prayer books of Sister Wendy; and Jordan Emerick, Rock Island, cord rosaries.

Also featured will be: Penny Ensley, Kewanee, pen, pencil, computer art; Kee Fryxell, Davenport, Iowa, colored pencils, pastel; Alba Goebel, Chillicothe, portrait painting; Elida Gomez, Moline, string art; Andre Garcia, Davenport, Iowa, photography; Mary Ann Hansen, Rock Island, bead rosaries; Paul Herrera, Milan, calligraphy; Dennis Hurd, Bettendorf, Iowa, woodworking; and John Jackson, Mackinaw, wood saw scrolling.

The list continues with: Christi Jentz, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, jewelry, acrylic painting; Father William Kneemiller, Davenport, Iowa, Holy Land Military rosaries, prayer books; Joyce Matten, Geneseo, jewelry, crosses, acrylic and oil paintings, watercolor; Mindy, Andy, Lydia, Luke, Tina, and Ruth Olson, Moline, pocket saint peg dolls; Taryn Watkins, Peoria, watercolor, acrylic and egg tempera painting; Kathryn Weets, Lost Nation, Iowa, oil paintings and colored pencils; and Rory Wellner, Rock Island, crochet hearts.

In addition, Rodts has prepared examples of her painting, illustrations, icons, drawing, jewelry, and photography for the show. She is from Milan.
