Dr. Nagele eager to speak to area parishes, schools about Maryknoll Lay Missioners
Is your parish or school organization looking for a speaker? Dr. Susan Nagele has 33 years of stories from her medical missionary service in East Africa to share.
“If anybody would like to invite me, I’m happy to talk to as few or as many — Knights of Columbus councils, women’s groups, schools, colleges,” said Nagele who, while stepping back from medical practice in distant lands, remains a Maryknoll Lay Missioner based in Urbana.
And part of her mission now is to educate about, and seek support for, the work of the 60 lay missioners working in eight countries — just as she recently did at her home parish of St. Patrick in Urbana. She describes Maryknoll as a Catholic organization inspired by the mission of Jesus to live and work in poor communities in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Maryknoll Lay Missioners strive to both respond to basic needs and help create a more just and compassionate world.
Those wishing to learn more about Maryknoll Lay Missioners are encouraged to visit mklm.org. The website also describes how to financially support the missioners. Checks may also be sent to Maryknoll Lay Missioners, PO Box 307, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0307, with designation in the memo line to support the general fund, the retirement fund, or a specific missioner.
