‘Art of Faith’ sacred art show, sale, presentations set Feb. 24-25 in Rock Island

ROCK ISLAND — “The Triumph of the Cross” is the theme for Art of Faith, a juried sacred art show and sale that will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, in McCarthy Hall at St. Pius X Church, 2901 24th St.

The featured speaker for the show, now in its seventh year, will be David Clayton, provost of Pontifex University, an online Catholic education platform. An artist, teacher, writer and broadcaster, he is also a visiting fellow at the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts.

Clayton will discuss “Transformation into Christ: How Sacred Art and Prayer Shine the Light of Christ” at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Choir members and interested adults, teens and children are encouraged to attend his workshop on chanting the Liturgy of the Hours at 5:15 p.m. and then use what they’ve learned during evening prayer at 6:30 p.m.

He will also assist with music ministry at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Masses at St. Pius X on Sunday.

The conversation begun by Clayton will continue through a study of his book, “The Way of Beauty: Liturgy, Education and Inspiration for Family, School, and College,” on the four Sundays of March. The sessions will be held from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. in McCarthy Hall.

ACCEPTING ARTWORK

Saturday’s musical performances at Art of Faith will include guitar music from Father Charles Klamut of St. Ambrose, Milan, and St. Patrick, Andalusia, at 2 p.m., and Chris Dunn at 4 p.m. Performing on Sunday are Lydia Olson, harp, at 9 a.m., Olson and Jerry Schroeder, guitar, at 9:40 a.m.; the Jordan Catholic School Choir at 12:15 p.m. and the Grace Notes from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy, East Moline, at 1 p.m.

Rodts said artwork in all visual forms may be submitted through Feb. 19. Artists are asked to send three to five photos of their work with a statement about why it contemplates the triumph of the cross and faith in God’s love to jillmr96@gmail.com or Art of Faith, 2502 29th Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201.
