20 artists plus speaker, performers at sacred art show in Rock Island Feb. 18-19
ROCK ISLAND — The Sixth Annual Art of Faith sacred art show and sale is ready to receive visitors this Saturday, Feb. 18, and Sunday, Feb. 19, in Farrell Hall at St. Pius X Church, 2901 24th St. The theme is “Contemplating the Holy Face of God.”
The artwork that will be shown from 2 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 18 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 19 includes traditional, devotional, contemporary and inspirational religious art, which is also available for purchase. In addition, some of the artists will offer demonstrations on painting and wood carving.
The keynote speaker will be Father John-Luke from the Community of St. John, who will talk about the philosophy of art at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 18. Following his presentation, members of the Community of St. John will chant evening prayer.
Vocal and instrumental performances will be held throughout the show, starting at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18. The schedule published in the Feb. 12, 2017, issue of The Catholic Post has been revised a bit and now features the following on Feb. 18:
2 p.m. — Chris Dunn, guitarist
3 p.m. — Harper’s Delight
4:10 p.m. — The Community of St. John
4:30 p.m. — Father John-Luke, CSJ, who will give a keynote talk on how “Beauty Will Save the World.”
5:10 p.m. — Community of St. John, Vespers
6 p.m. — Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy Choir, East Moline
6:30 p.m. — Jerry Schroeder & Crew, guitarists
Performers on Feb. 19 include:
10 a.m. — The Youth Choir from St. Mary, Rock Island
11 a.m. — Lydia Olson, harpist
12:10 p.m. — Jordan Catholic School Choir, Rock Island
The winners of the Catholic Social Teaching Art Contest will be recognized at 12:45 p.m.
Founder and organizer Jill Rodts noted that a Memorial Mass for Father Johnjoseph DePorres Logan is planned for 8 a.m. on Feb. 18. A supporter and benefactor, he loved to attend the art show and visit with the artists, she said.
Chicken and dumplings, along with a dessert and drink, will be served for $5. Breakfast foods will be available after the Masses on Sunday. Proceeds will go to the Art of Faith ministry.
