Sister Mary Pacifica Lorber, OSF, dies at 104; funeral planned for Oct. 18

EAST PEORIA — Sister Mary Pacifica Lorber, OSF, died on Oct. 14, 2016, at the motherhouse of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. She was 104 and in her 78th year of religious profession.

Visitation is planned for 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, in the motherhouse chapel, 1175 St. Francis Lane. A funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Burial was to take place at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island.

The daughter of John and Anna (Schindler) Lorber, Sister Mary Pacifica was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Springfield. She entered consecrated life at St. Anthony Convent in Rock Island on March 31, 1938.

She ministered in the dietary department at St. Francis Hospital in Kewanee from 1947 to 1954; Schlarman Children’s Home in Peoria from 1955 to 1958; Huber Memorial Home in Rock Island from 1958 to 1964; and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rock Island from 1964 to 1972. Sister Mary Pacifica became a registered pharmacy apprentice in 1975 and served in the pharmacy department of Franciscan Medical Center in Rock Island from 1972 to 1982. She also worked as an activity aide, pastoral care visitor and carriage house aide at St. Anthony’s Care Center in Rock Island.

She retired to the motherhouse in 2002.

Sister Mary Pacifica was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
