Physical walkers, virtual walkers and prayer partners are sought for Friends of the Poor Walk/Runs planned in Peoria and Urbana on Saturday, Sept. 26, to benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

The Peoria walk will take place on the parish grounds of St. Vincent de Paul Church, located at the corner of University and Northmoor. Walkers are invited to attend the 7:45 a.m. parish Mass. On-site registration will take place after the Mass with the walk taking place from 9 to 10 a.m.

The Peoria walk is for all of the Society’s conferences in the Diocese of Peoria. Proceeds will be disbursed to the respective conferences based on the preferences of the walker or donor. Monies assist a wide range of assistance to the needy including housing assistance, disaster relief, food pantries, transportation, utility costs, and medicines.

The Urbana walk takes place at the Anita Purves Nature Center, 1505 N. Broadway Ave. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk beginning at 10. This is the first year for the Urbana walk, which benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Conference at St. Patrick Parish.

Walkers are encouraged to make a personal monetary donation and collect pledges from supporters. The website fopwalk.org offers information about becoming a walker. Online registration is encouraged, but walkers and donors may also simply come the day of the event.
