Commission on Women plans trip to Wisconsin Guadalupe shrine

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is the destination for the next bus pilgrimage sponsored by the Bishop’s Commission on Women and everyone is welcome to come along.

The bus will leave from the Spalding Pastoral Center in Peoria at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the five-hour drive to Wisconsin. In addition to exploring the shrine and spending time in prayer, the group will visit Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, Minnesota, before heading back on Monday, Oct. 12.

Not only is the college seminary home to men from central Illinois who are studying for the priesthood now, but it has played a role in the formation of many priests serving in the Diocese of Peoria. Among them is Father David Whiteside, the commission’s spiritual director, who will be leading the pilgrimage.

The group will stay at the Stoney Creek Inn in Onalaska, Wisconsin, for two nights. Also included in the cost of the trip are lunch at The Kitchen Buffet in Dubuque, Iowa, on the way up, brunch at the shrine on Oct. 11, and lunch there on Oct. 12, as well as transportation.

The fee is $375 for a single occupancy room, $250 each for a double occupancy room, $210 each for a triple occupancy room, and $190 each for four people staying in the same room. There is room for 50 pilgrims, so early reservations are recommended.

Checks made payable to Bishop’s Commission on Women may be sent to Carolyn Zinck at 21469 E. New Bridge Road, Canton, IL 61520. Your check will be your reservation.
