At Scout Mass, bishop urges all to imitate their self-giving ways

More than 40 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from around the Diocese of Peoria were awarded emblems signifying completion of various levels of religious study and training during the annual Scout Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral last Sunday.
Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, was principal celebrant and opened the Mass with a “special word of welcome and pride” to the young Scouts, their leaders, and parents.
“Congratulations for all you do to build up your communities,” he told the Scouts as well as several American Heritage Girls in attendance. Scouts took active roles in the liturgy including as servers and gift bearers.
In his homily, Bishop Jenky urged all to imitate the example of young men and women in Scouting.
“They just don’t take care of themselves,” said the bishop. “They give to others. They make their communities and their world a better place. They show the generosity in their hearts that Jesus shows to us.”
