MENDOTA — Five Mendota churches, including Holy Cross Catholic Church, are opening their doors to the public on Sunday, Dec. 28, for the first Christmas Church Tour.

Organized by the Mendota Ministerial Team, the tours will be offered from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the following sites:

— Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1010 Jefferson St.
— Zion Methodist Church, 808 Jefferson St.
— St. John’s Lutheran Church, 607 10th Ave.
— Mendota Presbyterian Church, 1003 5th St., and
— First United Methodist Church, 100 E. 6th St. (Light refreshments will be served at this location.)

Each of the participating churches will be decorated in a unique style for the Christmas season. Attendees may visit all churches or selected ones.

Jerry Prokuski, a member of Holy Cross Parish who serves on the coordinating team for the project, said goals of the first-time effort are to attract people to the churches and show off their beauty and mission.

No admission will be charged, however a free-will offering will be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Mendota Area Food Pantry. The tour will be canceled if weather does not permit.
