Birthright of Macomb to mark 40th anniversary Nov. 2, 6

MACOMB — Birthright of Macomb will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at The Old Dairy Restaurant, 210 S. Lafayette St.

The history of Birthright of Macomb, which offers free and confidential pregnancy services provided by a volunteer staff, will be on display. The event will include free brownies and milk, along with a gift handout for children, and free coffee for adults. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a handmade quilt.

Birthright received its first phone call for help from a pregnant woman in December of 1973. Over the next four decades, the organization has served hundreds of women with services including pregnancy testing, baby and maternity clothing, diapers, blankets, books on prenatal and baby care, referrals, and gift layette sets for newborns.

A second 40th anniversary open house event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Birthright of Macomb’s newly decorated office at the Immanuel Lutheran Student Center, one block south of the Western Illinois University campus at 303 N. Clay St. Social service providers, community leaders, and friends and supporters of Birthright are invited to meet Kelly Jameson, newly elected Birthright director, and the organization’s volunteers and board members.
