All Saints’ Day, Nov. 1, is a holy day of obligation

The month of November begins with two worldwide church observances — the Solemnity of All Saints on Friday, Nov. 1, and the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls) on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Solemnity of All Saints — in honor of all the saints, known and unknown — is a holy day of obligation. The Spalding Pastoral Center, including the offices of The Catholic Post, will be closed on Nov. 1.

All Souls’ Day is a reminder that the faithful on earth can help the departed on their journey to heaven through prayer, especially the sacrifice of the Mass.

On All Souls’ Day, The Catholic Post will release a music video honoring those in the Diocese of Peoria who died in the past year. The video incorporates 50 images of recently departed loved ones submitted by readers of The Catholic Post. It can be viewed online at thecatholicpost.com starting on Nov. 2.
