Sr. Cabrini Rael, OSB, dies; funeral Oct. 17 in Rock Island
ROCK ISLAND — A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of St. Mary Monastery here for Sister Cabrini A. Rael, OSB, who taught at several schools in the Diocese of Peoria.
Sister Cabrini died on Monday, Oct. 14, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity in Rock Island. She was 85.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary Monastery, 2200 88th Avenue W., Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home of Milan is assisting with arrangements.
Born April 25, 1928 in Puerto de Luna, N.M., to Frank and Susan (Page) Rael, she attended Santa Rosa Elementary in Santa Fe., N.M., and then St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo. She received a bachelor of arts degree in education from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa.
Sister Cabrini entered the Benedictine community on Dec. 8, 1948, making her final profession on June 24, 1953.
Her ministry would include teaching at schools including St. Mary, Moline; St. Boniface, Peoria; St. John, Bradford; Holy Family, Peoria; Immaculate Conception, Monmouth; Sts. Peter and Paul, Nauvoo, and St. Columba in Chicago.
She is survived by brothers John and Donald Rael, many nieces and nephews, and her Benedictine Sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank and Joseph Rael; and two sisters, Sister Augustine Rael and Thelma Bonney.
