Mass, reception on Aug. 31 marks 150 years of education
Four months of activities celebrating 150 years of Catholic secondary education in the Peoria area will conclude when Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, celebrates an anniversary Mass at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
The Mass will be followed by a reception at the Spalding Pastoral Center featuring an alumni art show as well as works from current students. Heavy hors’doeuvres and beverages will be served.
Concelebrants of the Mass will include Msgr. Mark Merdian, president of Peoria Notre Dame, and Father Adam Stimpson, chaplain. Peoria Notre Dame students will lead the music and also have liturgical roles.
The public is invited to the Mass and reception. Those planning to attend the reception are asked to notify Sharon Abraham at Peoria Notre Dame for planning purposes by Friday, Aug. 23. Call her at (309) 691-9531 or email s.abraham@pndhs.org.
On Friday evening, Aug. 30, Peoria Notre Dame’s football team will play longtime rival Richwoods at Peoria Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
Other anniversary events throughout the spring and summer have included an opening Mass honoring the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, reunions, a Fulton Sheen Day, and a Peoria Chiefs baseball game at which bobblehead dolls of New York Yankees manager and former Spalding Institute athlete Joe Girardi were distributed.
