New assignments for 39 priests to take effect over the next four months were announced this week by Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC.

Among the highlights of the changes, listed in full below, are:

— The granting of senior status to four diocesan priests, while two religious order priests are returning to their communities.

— The naming of founding pastors for two new parishes uniting existing faith communities in Spring Valley as well as in Fairbury, Strawn, Chatsworth, and Forrest. Details are found in a story here.

— The welcoming of three priests from the Eastern U.S. Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco for service in the Champaign area. See story here.

— The assignments of new chaplains for Alleman High School in Rock Island and Marquette Academy in Ottawa, and

— The appointment of Msgr. John Prendergast to several diocesan leadership roles including special assistant to the bishop, episcopal vicar for religious, episcopal vicar for retired priests, and vice chancellor.

First assignments for the priests being ordained May 25 will appear in the June 9 issue of The Catholic Post.

Because the retirements have three different effective dates and other appointments reflect initial implementation of the “Growing in Faith Together” pastoral recommendations, the assignments are being phased in stages over the coming months as follows:
