‘Planning for end of life’ focus in Rock Island Nov. 1, 8

ROCK ISLAND — “From Life to Life Everlasting: Faithful Choices, Conversations and Planning for the End of Life” will be presented on Thursdays, Nov. 1 and 8, in Farrell Hall on the grounds of St. Pius X Church, 2502 29th Ave. They will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The speakers for the sessions, sponsored by St. Pius X’s health ministry, are Father Michael Schaab, pastor, and Mary Milas, the parish nurse. They will address end-of-life choices, trends impacting end-of-life care, Catholic guidelines and the importance of family conversations before a health crisis occurs.

Father Schaab and Milas noted that “good stewardship of our lives requires that we consider and communicate our values and desires for the end of life so that, in the end, our own wishes may be honored. Too many spend their final days in hospital intensive care units, isolated from their families, distressed, and deprived of the opportunity to design their own life’s ending.”

The pastor and parish nurse will discuss the value of advanced planning documents and offer practical instructions and guidance for preparing advanced directives.

For more information, contact Milas at (309) 793-7373, ext. 26.
