Marquette Academy inducts two into its Hall of Fame

OTTAWA — The newest members of the Marquette Academy Hall of Fame are Sister Judy Aubry, OP, and Bob Durdan. They were chosen from a large group of nominees by a committee of members of the Marquette “family.”

The daughter of John and Ann Aubry, Sister Judy was born and raised in Ottawa. She graduated from St. Patrick’s School in 1958 and Marquette in 1962.

She attended Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, Iowa, for one year before entering the Sinsinawa Dominicans. She taught middle school and high school in Wisconsin and has been a pastoral associate at parishes in Madison, Wis.; Barre, Vt.; and Saranac Lake, N.Y. Sister Judy has served at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Beloit, Wis., for 15 years.

She is involved with homeless shelters and the local food pantry, visits the sick, and works with parish volunteers, the parish health committee and parish life committee, and the bereaved.

Durdan is the son of Steve and Edna Durdan and was born and raised in Grand Ridge. After graduating from Marquette in 1963 he enlisted in the Army. When he returned he farmed with his family and later opened an electrical business, which he has owned for 40 years and now includes his two sons.

In addition to the boys, Durdan and his wife Cheryl — who married in 1966 — have three daughters. All of them graduated from Marquette. His extended family also includes 15 grandchildren.

Bob and Cheryl are active members of St. Mary of the Fields in Grand Ridge, and Bob can always be counted on to lend a helping hand at Marquette, according to school officials. Among other things, he has served two terms on the school board and worked on the Capital Building Campaign for the new school.

The Marquette Academy Hall of Fame honors those who have distinguished themselves in the broadcast media, military, elected public office, education, medicine, scientific research, religious life and as members of the community at large.
