METAMORA — New media and traditional Catholic values will combine during the third annual Behold Conference, which will be held Saturday, March 10, at Embassy Suites in East Peoria. The theme for the day is “From the Heart of God.”
The conference will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and feature keynote addresses by Catholic journalist and blogger Kate Wicker as well as the Sisters of Life. In addition, image consultant Ginny Baldrige will lead a special presentation and singer-songwriter Marie Miller will return to offer music for reflection and entertainment.
There will also be opportunities for eucharistic adoration, the sacrament of reconciliation and Mass.
During her talk, “Made in Heaven,” Wicker will explore what it means to be fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image and likeness. Using Scripture, the saints and the wisdom of the church, she will invite women to see themselves as image-bearers of God’s beauty and instruments in his hands.
Between sessions participants will have an opportunity to interact with Wicker, a senior writer and health columnist for “Faith & Family” and author of “Weightless: Making Peace with Your Body,” and other bloggers. Among them are Jen Fulwiler of Conversion Diary (conversiondiary.com), who spoke at last year’s Behold Conference; Hallie Lord of Betty Beguiles (bettybeguiles.com); Sister Helena Burns, FSP, of Hell Burns (hellburns.blogspot.com); and Danielle Bean, new editor of catholicdigest.com and faithandfamilylive.com/blog.
The “Meet the Blogger” component of the conference is being led by Nancy Piccione, book page editor for The Catholic Post.
The Behold Conference is hosted by the First Ten group of St. Mary’s Parish in Metamora, with sponsorship from OSF HealthCare. Topics are considered appropriate for women who are high school age and older, and lap babies are welcome.
Registration is $60, which includes conference materials, breakfast and lunch. A limited number of scholarships are available for those in need. The deadline for registration and scholarships is March 1.
