St. Therese Tennis Tourney helps Catholic Charities, others

Tennis players, volunteers, sponsors and spectators are sought for the inaugural “St. Therese Tennis Tourney,” a doubles tournament set for Saturday, Aug. 27, that will raise funds for three charities serving children in need, including Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Peoria.

The tournament — to be hosted at Racquet Club South of The Clubs at River City, 1700 Altorfer Drive, Peoria — is sponsored by a newly formed group in the Peoria area called the St. Therese Charitable Organization.
Inspired by the example of St. Therese of Lisieux, the group hopes to “support those charitable organizations that are committed to securing a safe and loving home to any child who is in need of one.”

The tennis tournament features both men’s and women’s doubles in round-robin play. The women’s tournament begins at 9 a.m., while men’s play opens at 1 p.m. Play is limited to 100 players, and the entry fee is $50 per player.

The event will conclude with an optional banquet and silent auction that evening at the St. Sharbel Banquet Hall, 2914 W. Scenic Drive in Peoria. The cost is $25 per plate.

In addition to Catholic Charities, Crittenton Centers and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are also listed as beneficiaries of the tournament and banquet.
