Central Catholic in title game; Notre Dame undefeated, too

Basketball fever is rising at several schools in the Diocese of Peoria, especially at Bloomington Central Catholic and Peoria Notre Dame, where teams are experiencing historic, undefeated seasons.

The girls of Central Catholic advanced to the state finals on Saturday night in Class 2A by defeating Kankakee McNamara last night at Redbird Arena in Normal. The Saints, with a record of 32-0 and riding a 42-game winning streak extending back into last year’s state championship team, play Quincy Notre Dame at 8:15 p.m. for the state title this evening.

The boys basketball team from Peoria Notre Dame, meanwhile, enters the state tournament after completing a 26-0 regular season Tuesday night with a win over Galesburg.
