We sure could use a little good news

In the 1970s, vocalist Anne Murray had a hit record with a chorus that ended “We sure could use a little good news today.” As the magnitude of the disaster in Haiti grows, we are grateful for glimmers of hope and good news in the response of generous Catholics in our diocese. Many are detailed in Jennifer Willems’ story on page 1.

We know there are many more examples of charitable responses and Haiti connections in homes, schools, parishes and institutions around our diocese. And we would like to pass them along.

How did your Catholic school respond? Which parishes were surprised at the amount of their second collections last weekend? Who else may be planning to go to Haiti — or is already there — to personally assist the relief effort? Do you have a personal connection to Haiti?

As we all continue to pray for the victims — and that the aftershocks stop — help The Catholic Post to spread a little more good news and even a few creative ideas. E-mail us at cathpost@cdop.org, putting “Haiti Report” in the subject line.

With the news cycle attention span in the U.S. shrinking, the temptation will be to soon forget Haiti and move one to the next big news. We can’t allow that. Thanks for your assistance. — Thomas J. Dermody
