Franciscans to unveil ornament
hnson Christmas Ornament to benefit the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception will be unveiled at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Immaculate Conception Convent, 2408 W. Heading Ave. in West Peoria.
In 1995, Johnson gave the community the right to use his unique Christmas card designs to create a collectible ornament series. Upon his death in 2000, his family decided to continue to honor his wishes and celebrate his art.
The sales from the 14 previous ornaments has raised more than $850,000 for the sisters’ retirement fund.
Attending Saturday’s unveiling will be members of the religious community, Johnson’s family, people involved in the production of the ornament and supporters of this cause. This year’s ornament is on the theme “The Birth.”
