Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, offers remembrance candles

ROCK ISLAND — People will have an opportunity to remember their deceased loved ones resting at Calvary Cemetery by having candles placed at their graves on All Souls’ Day.

The Remembrance Candles will be blessed at a special ceremony on Monday, Nov. 2, at 9 a.m., at the mausoleum, 2901 12th St., and placed by the cemetery staff. Candles honoring those entombed in the mausoleum will be placed along the walks, while candles requested in memory of those who are buried elsewhere will be placed in the Garden of St. Francis.

In glass containers, the candles will be marked with the names of the deceased. They are designed to remain lit for approximately 72 hours, weather permitting.

The cost of each Remembrance Candle is $6.50. Checks should be made payable to Calvary Cemetery and mailed to Calvary Cemetery Association, 2901 12th St., Rock Island, IL 61201.

Each order should be accompanied by the name, address and phone number of the person requesting the Remembrance Candles, as well as the names of their deceased loved ones. The cemetery office also needs to know if those who are being remembered were buried at Calvary, entombed in the mausoleum or interred somewhere else.
