East Moline, Silvis parishes plan Women’s Day Oct. 3

EAST MOLINE — “Can We Talk,” a day designed to celebrate Mary, woman to woman, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cleary Hall of St. Anne’s Church, 555 18th Ave.

Bev Bryan, regional director of religious education for the Galesburg and Macomb vicariates of the Diocese of Peoria, will be the guest speaker for the Daughters of God Reflection Day. She brings with her 30 years of experience as a catechist, youth group director and RCIA coordinator.

Organizers said the day is meant to challenge women to see Mary not only as a model of purity, serenity and constant prayer, but as a wife and mother who also had daily chores of cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and raising a Son.

“She felt so many of the same fears and concerns that we have,” they said. “Why don’t we see her as one of us? Why don’t we talk to her more?”

The Daughters of God Reflection Day is a combined effort of St. Anne’s and St. Mary’s in East Moline and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Silvis, but it is also open to women of neighboring parishes.

The cost for the day is $15, which includes a snack and lunch. To register or to receive more information, call Mary Lou Killian at (309) 755-8815.
The deadline for reservations is Monday, Sept. 21.
