Morning for catechists planned Aug. 29 in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON — “An Awakening,” a morning of reflection for catechists in parish religious education programs, Catholic schools, and RCIA teams, will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at Holy Trinity Church, 704 N. Main St.

The morning begins with Mass at 8 a.m. and includes time for meditative prayer, processing and sharing, using materials prepared by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for Catechetical Sunday. This year’s theme is “Catechesis and the Proclamation of the Word.”

The presenter will be Father Patrick Henehan, chaplain at Central Catholic High School in Bloomington and pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish in Wapella.

The morning of reflection was planned by Sharon Priester, regional director of religious education for the Bloomington and Pontiac vicariates, and five directors of religious education from those regions: Ginger Connor, St. Patrick’s Parish, Dwight; Karen Peissig, St. Mary’s Parish, Pontiac; Tina Boettcher, St. Mary’s Parish, Bloomington; Mary Bechtel, Holy Trinity Parish, Bloomington; and Sister Margaret McCormick, Holy Family Parish, Lincoln.

There is no fee to attend, but reservations are requested by Aug. 26. Call Priester at (309) 662-1490, or Bechtel at (309) 828-8242.
