Because the Aug. 15 feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on a Saturday this year, the obligation to attend Mass on the holy day is abrogated.

The Assumption commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into heaven. In the Diocese of Peoria, the feast marks the beginning of a special Year of the Most Holy Rosary proclaimed by Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC.
