OSF acquiring Carle Clinic in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON — OSF Healthcare System will extend its services in the Bloomington-Normal area this fall thanks to an agreement signed Tuesday with the Urbana-based Carle Clinic Association.
Effective Sept. 13, the Carle Clinic site in Bloomington will be renamed “OSF Medical Group — College Avenue” and will commence operations as a part of OSF Healthcare System, which is owned and operated by the East Peoria-based Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.
“The providers and staff of this clinic have served their patients in this region very effectively under the Carle Clinic name,” said Dr. Bruce Wellman, Carle Clinic CEO.
“This clinic will continue operations with that same exceptional commitment to quality, compassion and care under the ownership of OSF HealthCare,” added Dr. Gerald McShane, president and CEO of OSF Medical Group.
The Bloomington Carle Clinic employs about 40 health care providers and 200 other staff members, all of whom will continue to work at the clinic except for a few physicians who are opening practices elsewhere. The clinic’s chief medical officer, Dr. Les Mathers, also will continue in his position.
The clinic treated about 37,000 patients last year.
Located at 1701 E. College Avenue, the clinic’s services include adult medicine, behavioral health, family medicine, general surgery, neurology, OB/GYN, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmonology, radiology and urology. The clinic will continue to serve patients daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Carle Foundation in Urbana also will maintain its full service pharmacy.
Patients will still have access to BroMenn Regional Medical Center, and any clinic physicians who do not currently have privileges at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington will acquire them.
With new ownership, the clinic will accept insurance with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Humana Inc. in addition to Health Alliance Medical Plans.
