Community of St. John offers rosary CD set

PRINCEVILLE — Catholics who are looking for new ways to spend some quiet time with the Blessed Mother and her Son in the mysteries of the rosary are invited to join the Community of St. John in prayer with “Contemplating His Face.”

The two-CD set presents all 20 decades of the rosary with meditations preceding each mystery and a song of meditation following. The CDs also include the Apostles Creed and introductory prayers of the rosary as well as the “Salve Regina” and Prayer of Consecration to Mary, which is said by the members of the Community of St. John each day after Mass.

To help those who may not be familiar with the structure of the rosary, the liner notes include instructions on how to recite it, the words of the prayers and which mysteries are used for meditation on each day of the week.

There is also information about the community’s founder and history, and the Brothers, Sisters and Oblates of St. John.

“I think that the spirit that comes through the CD is most beautiful,” said Father Nathan Cromly, CSJ, who offers the meditations for the Luminous Mysteries. “Pope John Paul II encouraged the church to pray the rosary in a contemplative way. This CD aims to help people do just that.”

Also offering meditations are Father Joseph Mary Brown, CSJ, prior, who talks about the Joyful Mysteries; Father Didier-Marie Dugas, CSJ, who reflects on the Sorrowful Mysteries; and Father John-Therese Creus, CSJ, who helps listeners explore the Glorious Mysteries.

The songs of meditation — referred to as “sound leading to silence” — are sung by the Sisters of St. John.

“All of the music is taken from the liturgy used in Community of St. John. So this is music specially written for the community,” Father Nathan said.

“We wanted to share the beauty of monastic liturgy with the lay people of today,” he explained.

“Contemplating His Face” is $20, plus postage and handling. For more information, call Father Joseph Mary at (309) 385-1193 or visit www.communityofstjohn.com and click on “Publications” and “Other” for an order form.
