Sr. Marie William Cahill, OP, native of Bradford, dies at 98

SINSINAWA, Wis. — A funeral Mass was celebrated on June 15 in Queen of the Rosary Chapel here for Sister Marie William Cahill, OP, a native of Bradford. She was 98.

Sister Marie William died on June 11, 2009, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. She was buried in the motherhouse cemetery.

The daughter of William and Margaret (Colgan) Cahill, Sister Marie William was born on April 23, 1911. She made her first profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican on March 8, 1935, and her final profession on Aug. 5, 1938.

A longtime educator and administrator, she taught elementary and junior high school for 36 years and was a principal for 13 years and an assistant principal for seven years. In addition, she served as a parish minister, librarian and alumnae director. Sister Marie William also was involved in leadership for her religious community.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Edward Cahill and Father Francis Cahill. She is survived by nieces, nephews and the Sinsinawa Dominicans, with whom she shared her life for 74 years.
