Christ Child Society now active in Pontiac
PONTIAC — Starting Mother’s Day weekend, the Christ Child Society of Central Illinois will donate five infant layette baskets a month to OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac.
The social service and pastoral care departments and the obstetrics department director will distribute the layettes to those who need them. The society’s mission is to provide a basket of new infant clothing and newborn baby items to new mothers in need.
Each layette costs about $40, and includes blankets, clothing, towels, diapers and other baby supplies.
Donations of layette items, monetary donations, and flannel, knit or lightweight cotton fabric are also needed. People who can sew and knit are encouraged to volunteer.
Those who can donate or volunteer are invited to the next Christ Child Society meeting at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 20, in Education Room No. 1 at St. James Medical center. Those who wish to attend the meeting should call Shari Paris at (815) 419-8620. For more information, call Peg Shipley at (309) 287-8026.
