There is frightening language being used this week regarding the dangerous influenza with the odd name that’s spreading around the world. As The Catholic Post went to press on Wednesday, the World Health Organization raised its alert level and signaled a global pandemic could be imminent.

“It really is all of humanity that is under threat during a pandemic,” said WHO Director General Margaret Chan. That’s scary.

As people from government officials to medical personnel to our own Bishop Jenky determine proper courses of action should the worst come to pass, we believe this issue of The Catholic Post, with its emphasis on spiritual health, is particularly well timed.

Jesus is risen and triumphant and is near us through times of trial whether they be physical, financial, or emotional. Reading this issue closely is our prescription to calm anxieties caused by today’s headlines. — Thomas J. Dermody, editor-in-chief, The Catholic Post
